BARSHAM FAYRE Vs.1 Out and about one fine summer day Rambling the lanes down Bungay way I met a young woman and she did say “Are out just taking the air? Or are you going to Barsham Fayre?” Vs. 2 Says I “in truth I’m a travelling man I have no destination planned” Says she “then sir, perhaps you’ll take my hand If you have the time to spare And I’ll take you to Barsham Fayre” CHORUS Barsham Fayre on a warm summer night Lost in a dream by the soft firelight If I never come home don't worry, I’m alright You’ll find me at Barsham Fayre - Link Vs.3 So we went to the fayre and I looked around All manner of wonders there I found Such a joyful riot of sight and sound And revellers everywhere That summer at Barsham Fayre Vs.4 Craftsmen, clowns and players I saw Jesters, jugglers, beggars and bawds Rogues in finery and threadbare lords All manner of folk were there Gathered at Barsham Fayre CHORUS Vs.5 I sat by a fire as the evening fell In the company of friends and a jug of fine ale And we laughed and we sang and told tall tales I wished time could stop right there And leave me at Barsham Fayre CHORUS Repeat Instrumental

Deep Lane 03:57
DEEP LANE Where have you been my daughter? Where did you go last night? Where have you been my daughter fair In the cold starlight? Your hands are cold your hair is wild And in your eye a look so dark and strange Did you go out down the old Deep Lane? Yes i went out walking I went out last night I went walking all alone In the cold starlight And there within the shadowed green I met a gentleman so dark and strange I must return to the old Deep Lane What did you hear my daughter? What did you hear last night? What did you hear my daughter fair In the cold starlight? I heard seven ravens sing In voices sweet as sun and summer rain I must return to the old Deep Lane What did you see my daughter? What did you see last night? What did you see my daughter fair In the cold starlight? I saw a shining company Dancing to the ravens’ sweet refrain I must return to the old Deep Lane What happened then my daughter? What happened then last night? What happened then my daughter fair In the cold starlight? They took took me up and turned me round Lifted me and laid me down Enchanting me with sight and sound so strange I must return to the old Deep Lane How did you leave my daughter? How did you come back home? We feared you were forever lost Never to return I cannot stop cannot stay Not even for a single day And you must also come away To starlight cold and lands so dark and strange Come and walk with me down the old Deep Lane

The Wherryman's Wife Up with the sunrise, rake over the coals Fill up the kettle and onto the stove First brew of the day to banish the cold A wherryman's wife starts her day And its always been this way While the old man's up top with his eye on the tide I'll empty the chamber pot over the side Winch up the sail as the herring gulls cry And we'll get the old girl underway And its always been this way CHORUS: This is the life, this is the life This is the life of a wherryman's wife This is the life, this is the life This is the life of a wherryman';s wife Yesterday's cargo unloaded and sold Now 28 tonnes of good newcastle coal Are loaded on board and down in the hold She's low in the water today And it's always been this way Gunwales awash we head off from the quay There's a line to be spliced and a baby to feed The old man wants his baccy now where can that be And we're heading for Bramerton Staithe And its always been this way CHORUS With the wind in the south and the tide underneath We're making good time until surlingham Reach It's out with the quant now the wind's in our teeth The wherrymans wife is his mate And it's always been this way Bramerton Staithe at the turn of the tide Out with the moorings lines and come alongside Drop the black sail we're here for the night We're off with the first light of day And it's always been this way CHORUS Rig up the chimney and light up the stove Big pan of bacon and spuds on the go Baby's awake now, wouldn't you know Today was a very good day But I can't say it's always this way CHORUS

Guardian Angel If I’ve got a guardian angel He ain’t nothing but a waste of space If I’ve got a guardian Angel I don’t believe he’s onto my case All my life, every day Bad luck and trouble always coming my way So if I ever meet my guardian angel I’m gonna punch him right in the face If I see my guardian angel There’ll be issues I will want to discuss Like where the hell has he been since I was put on this earth And why his angel-thing ain’t up to that much I‘ll express my displeasure Right to his face All the evidence says he ain’t been pulling his weight He’s a washout as a guardian angel And then I’m gonna kick his butt If you’ve got a guardian angel And he seems to have his foot off the gas I expect he’s playing poker with all of his mates Or he’s in some seedy dive getting smashed It won’t improve your luck but go and look him out Tell him he’s an idiot then slap him about If you’ve been let down by your guardian angel You’ll feel better if you kick his ass If I’ve got a guardian angel He ain’t nothing but a waste of space If I’ve got a guardian Angel I don’t believe he’s onto my case All my life, every day Bad luck and trouble always coming my way So if I ever meet my guardian angel I’m gonna put him right in his place (oh yeah!) You can be sure there will be no mistake (oh yeah!) I’m gonna punch him right in the face

Back to the Dirt The Parson will tell you Be life never so hard Live well and in death You will get your reward And god loves us all Both the rich and the poor In heaven we’ll bask in his grace As long as we all know our place Don’t promise us paradise After we’ve died When all that we have Is a fight to survive We all work like donkeys Just staying alive It’s a battle we fight every day; Don’t tell me it’s what god ordained The bullyboy sermon That threatens damnation The wheedling bribe Of eternal salvation The instruments used against Those who have not To keep them content With what little they’ve got We all have our station Or so we are told Praise god who has made us Poor hungry and cold And heaven forbid We should ever grow old If this is our lot here on earth If this is all we are worth Then put me back in the dirt It’s always the same It’s the rich get the perks While the poor they get nothing But do all the work And they tell us the meek Shall inherit the earth We’ll all live in bliss by and by But not until after we’ve died The bullyboy sermon That threatens damnation The wheedling bribe Of eternal salvation The instruments used against Those who have not To keep them content With what little they’ve got Don’t tell me to kneel Or expect me to pray Don’t preach about how the lord Made us this way I will not be damned I will not be saved I’ll walk my own path here on earth Then when I’ve finished I will go back to the dirt
