lyrics

I BURN

My love she is so beautiful
And stranger than he sea
Colder than the hoar frost in midwinter
Wilder than October gales
That shake the great oak trees
And bend the branches til they break and splinter

She follows in my shadow
If i walk out in the day
And in the night time she is there beside me
My keeper and companion
Who never far does stray
Nowhere on this earth can ever hide me

She lifts up her hand and puts her finger to my lips
She whispers softly to me love “was ever life as sweet
As this”

And so I burn

Where I stop to take my ease
There she will rest as well
As close to me as ever any lover
Sat beside her sweetheart saying
“Listen while I tell
Of broken faith and secrets undiscovered”

She speaks once more of rage and all of bitterness unbound
And on her breath the taint of silent darkness underground

And so I burn
My lover stands beside me
As I burn
All day and every night she
Makes me burn
Salvation is denied me
I burn

My true love lies forsaken
In a cold and lifeless grave
Buried deep where none can ever find her
And yet she sits beside me
Telling all my sin and shame
And not even death can ever bind her

She takes me in her arms and holds me in her cold embrace
“A curse for ev’ry breath you stole from her that you betrayed”

And so I burn
My lover stands beside me
As I burn
All day and every night she
Makes me burn
Salvation is denied me
I burn
